StuffSensei Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
StuffSensei is a home inventory app made by ATB Innovation Labs LLC. This policy explains what happens to your information.
The short version
Everything you put into StuffSensei stays on your phone unless you turn on cloud backup. (Product barcodes you scan are looked up by their number alone; see Barcode lookup.) We don’t sell, share or track anything. There are no ads and no analytics.
What stays on your phone
Your spaces, bins, items, photos, receipts and other files, reminders, people you add and settings are stored only on your device. Uninstalling the app deletes them unless you’ve saved a backup.
Permissions and why
- Camera: to photograph your things and scan QR labels and barcodes.
- Photos: to add pictures you choose from your library, and to save photos and labels you ask to save.
- Microphone and speech recognition (optional): to say an item’s name instead of typing it. Speech is turned into text by your phone’s built-in speech service (Apple or Google) under their privacy terms. StuffSensei doesn’t record or keep audio.
- NFC (optional): to read tags you stick on bins.
- Bluetooth (optional): to find and print to a Bluetooth label printer when you choose to. Only the labels you print are sent, straight to the printer. Bluetooth is never used to find your location.
- Face ID / fingerprint (optional): to unlock the app. This is handled by your phone; StuffSensei never sees your biometric data.
- Notifications: for reminders you turn on. They’re scheduled on your phone.
Things you choose to send
When you share an item, a list, a report or a backup, or use “Add to calendar” or “Email me”, StuffSensei hands that content to the app you pick (Mail, Messages, Files and so on). What happens next is up to that app and the people you send it to.
Barcode lookup
When you scan or type a product barcode, StuffSensei asks public product databases (UPCitemdb, and Open Food Facts, Open Products Facts and Open Beauty Facts) for that product’s name, brand and picture. Only the barcode number is sent: nothing about you, your account or your home. Codes from StuffSensei’s own QR labels are never looked up. You can turn this off in Settings › Look up barcodes online.
Cloud backup and shared homes (optional)
Everything above stays true unless you choose to sign in to cloud backup (StuffSensei Pro). If you do:
- What’s stored: your email address and password (handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see your password), and a copy of your home: its data and lighter copies of your photos and documents.
- Where: Google Firebase (Cloud Storage and Firestore) in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Who can see it: only you. If you share a home, the people you invite can see that home, and only those you allow can change it.
- What it’s used for: backing up, restoring, syncing and sharing your home. Nothing else: no ads, no analytics, no selling, no sharing with anyone else.
- How long we keep it: until you delete it. Deleting your cloud account removes the account and your cloud copy straight away.
- Deleting it: in the app, Settings › Cloud backup & sync › Delete cloud account. Your phone keeps everything. More ways are on the Delete my data page.
Purchases
If you subscribe to StuffSensei Pro, the purchase is handled by the App Store or Google Play. We don’t see or store your payment details.
Children
StuffSensei isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
You can see, export and delete everything StuffSensei holds about you: it’s in the app on your phone, and in your cloud copy if you made one. Export & backup gives you a full copy, and Delete my data explains how to remove it all. For anything else, email us.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
